Japan, US reach interim agreement on beef trade

    National Business Review - 25th October 2004

Japan, US reach interim agreement on beef trade

JAPAN - Japan and the United States have reached an interim agreement on the resumption of trade in beef – but nothing firm is yet on paper. According to the US Department of Agriculture American exports could resume as early as the second half of 2005. Understandably, the agreement is receiving very different handling in Japan – where the failure to reach concrete agreements is being touted – and in the United States – which is emphasising the spirit of the interim agreement.
