Negative things about pigs…

For better growth of the pigs, the are fed with non-vegetarian diets. Sometimes it happens that if the sow didn’t get the meat in het feed, she may eat its piglets!!! And may be, your meat could be cheaper from the supermarket! For good production - pigs must be well fed which means purchasing correct proprietary balanced diets. Pigs can produce smells that you and your neighbours may consider offensive. Escaping is fun for pigs. They get through wire mesh and lift doors off hinges. Pigs can also be noisy at certain times. Normally at feeding time they make irritating noises. Pig paddocks and shelters can look offensive in a nice environment. Boars can sometimes be dangerous. You may need to provide housing for certain classes of animals.

Positive things about pigs

Pigs are smart animals. They make great pets and can provide home-produced pork or bacon. They act as good garbage cleaners because they can eat kitchen scraps and surplus garden vegetables. They can be kept in pens or indoors and provide manure. The manure that they produce can be used can be used to fees some breed of fishes. The manure produces by these fishes can be used for cabbage plantation. Many pig farmers use this cabbage to feed the pigs. So, it completes the cycle between the pigs, fishes and the vegetables. Money can be made out of all of them. They reproduce regularly to provide and income from young pigs. Pigs can forage outdoors on pasture. They can be used to break in scrub.

Climatic conditions / Animal conditions

In temperate climates pigs have diurnal habits but in hot climates they are more nocturnal. If they have been hunted they will confine their activities to darkness. The key to ensuring optimum pig performance and maximum unit output is to provide the correct housing and environmental conditions for the particular stage of pig. Pigs are very sensitive to extremes of climate. Pigs have no sweat glands, no thick hair cover and they rely on fat cover for insulation. Pigs are sensitive to temperature and have sweat glands in their skin. They huddle together to keep warm and wallow to keep cool.

PIG BEHAVIOUR

Pigs are very sensitive and curious animals, and very adaptable and smart, so they learn quickly. They love to investigate situations with a very sensitive nose and strong neck muscles. Their bodies are designed for pushing through scrub relying on scent rather than vision. They have a very well developed sense of hearing and communicate with a wide range of vocalisation calls. Pigs have a highly developed eye that sees colour, but vision can be restricted by their floppy ears. Pigs are very social animals that prefer to live in small groups. They are very clean animals not dunging in their eating/lying area. Piglets learn their toilet habits from their dam. As pets they can be house trained! Pigs prefer scrub or light woodland rather than open range where they feel more vulnerable to predators. They have acute hearing and loud unfamiliar noises easily panic them.
